When I found out I got this role in "Fame," I screamed at the top of my lungs! I even cried a little. I studied this role and worked so hard to impress the director, casting director and producers, so once I got the call, I was obviously very happy. At the same time I am so lucky and blessed to be a part of such a great movie and to be able to share the opportunity with an amazing cast tops it all.
She's the aspiring/exuberant actress who's outgoing/outspoken and never second guesses herself. She is not afraid to say what's on her mind. She's a gregarious amped up talent who has a lot to say. In the beginning, Joy is like a spastic puppy and throughout the movie she matures into a young lady so you really see the character development in her.
We all instantly bonded and had such a great connection that I haven't experienced with any other cast. Our chemistry together will definitely translate on screen.
It's not just the cast that pulls pranks but the CREW does also. This crew is so friendly and fun. Kay Panabaker (who plays Jenny) and I would take clothes pins and clip them onto the some of the crews' clothes and just make a tail of them - almost like tagging. Once they saw what Kay and I were doing, THEY did it to others too! It was hilarious! Also Paul McGill (who plays Kevin) and I were rehearsing in Kay's trailer and we were pulling the bed down and he hopped on the end of it...the bed BROKE! Paul and I then left a note from "Goldilocks" saying the bed was too flimsy. That's actually what's so cool about this cast and what we have in common... we're not afraid to laugh with and at each other.
The ones that I think stick out for me is when you first meet Joy - it's a pretty hilarious scene and I got to film with Collins Pennie (who plays Malik) - it was a laugh fest! Also, a dramatic scene that I got to film with my best friend on/off screen Paul McGill: it's supposed to be an intimate scene between the best of friends - I think people will enjoy watching that one. And also the "one on one" scene I did with Debbie Allen! It was really great!
If I was not on set, I was recording or doing interviews for the movie. Any chance that I got though, I would hang out with the cast - we would have game nights and small get-togethers that were always so much fun.
I also get to showcase all my talents like singing, acting, and dancing. The audience and fans are used to seeing the comedic side of my acting - not only will they see that in this movie, but also more drama, like me crying and being more serious overall. Hopefully they will appreciate it, and see how much fun I had filming the movie.
